Russian Sinology and the magazine "Problems of the Far East" suffered a heavy loss. On May 18 of this year, the executive secretary of the editorial board, member of the editorial board of the journal Nikolay Sergeevich Tikhonov, died after a serious long illness. Most recently, on March 31 this year, we celebrated its 80th anniversary.
After graduating from the MGIMO Faculty of Oriental Studies in 1958, Nikolai Sergeevich worked for more than two years at the Institute of Sinology of the USSR Academy of Sciences. In 1960, after the closure of the Institute of Chinese Studies, N. S. Tikhonov moved to journalism at Gosteleradio, where he passed all the stages of a radio journalist (he was an editor, correspondent, commentator, columnist, executive secretary of the Editorial Office of broadcasting to China). As a correspondent, N. S. Tikhonov repeatedly went on business trips to the countries of East, South-East and South Asia: China, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia, and India.
In 1976, Nikolai Sergeevich completed his work on the radio as Deputy Editor-in-chief of the Mir i Progress radio station. After moving to the Novosti Press Agency, he worked as an APN columnist on Chinese issues: his materials were published in the press of Japan, India, Indonesia, the Philippines, Burma, Sri Lanka and other countries. In 1981-1986, he worked in diplomatic and journalistic work in Malaysia, holding the posts of press attache, first Secretary of the USSR Embassy and representative of the APN. In 1988, he took the position of executive secretary in the editorial office of the journal "Problems of the Far East", where he worked for more than a quarter of a century.
His rich life experience, broad scientific and political outlook, taste for journalistic work, and excellent personal qualities had a beneficial effect on the life and work of the editorial office.
